Emma Theresa Nelson

Emma Theresa Nelson was born on January 16, 1955 in Louisville, KY to Rosa Lee Sanderson and Jessie Slaughter, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Curtis L. Nelson, Sr., three sons, Dr. Christopher Nelson(Kristen), MD, Chef Kevin Nelson, and Dr. Curtis Nelson III(Rayna), Ed.D, L.C.S.W along with her older sister, Dorothy Anderson, stepdaughter Retina Simmons and stepson Curtis L. Nelson, Jr., grandchildren Myah Nelson, Olivia Nelson, Noah Nelson, Hope Nelson, Levi Nelson, and a great grandson, Demetrius Brownlee. Emma was a lifelong servant to others, beginning her first job at Kroger's, then working a series of service jobs including Treyton Oak Towers where she rose from a patient aid to Director of Medical Records, U.S. Census Bureau and H & R Block, the latter of which she mastered and became a leader in tax preparation with no formal training. Emma attended Loretto High School in Louisville, KY for middle school and high school. After graduation, she began working at U of L Hospital as a nurses aid and completed some courses in the nursing program at Spalding University before deciding to devote her time and life to raising a family. In her earlier years, Emma enjoyed writing and was an avid reader, sometimes preferring the works of authors such as Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Emma will forever be remembered for her self-sacrifice, strength, lifelong commitment to serving others, love for her family and gifts as a natural loving mother. Emma was a genius of practicality and brilliant woman, wife and parent. Emma was one of God's particularly strong servants. She will be missed deeply by her family friends and loved ones to a degree that human words cannot express.
Visitation: 10am-12pm Friday, March 1, 2024 at Canaan Christian Church, 2840 Hikes Lane., funeral service to follow at noon, burial in KY Veterans Cemetery.
