Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2283 Hwy. 83 South, Forsyth, Georgia. Burial in Rest Haven Cemetery, 525 Hwy. 83 South, Forsyth, Georgia. Service is scheduled to be Streamed Live on our Facebook Page.

Public viewing will be Monday, December 22, 2025 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Keep the family in prayer.

Emma Lou Phillips was born on July 3, 1940, to Arthur P. Phillips and Cora Lee Hansford Phillips., both preceded her in death. Emma peacefully passed away at her home on December 20, 2025. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Oscar Lee Phillips, Sr.

Emma graduated from Hubbard High School in 1960. She later attended Fort Valley State University, where she met and married the late Lester H. Maddox, Jr. From this union, two daughters were born: Gwendolyn D. Maddox and Lawana F. Maddox Reid.

After returning to Forsyth, Emma was employed by Howard Johnson, where she worked faithfully for many years. She also worked at Trio Mills, Aldora Mills, and later served her community as a school crossing guard until her health began to fail.

Emma was a devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board for several years until the onset of COVID-19.

In her spare time, Emma enjoyed working in her yard, shopping, and visiting with family. She was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her two daughters, Gwendolyn Maddox and Lawana Maddox Reid (Lenzy); brother, Arthur Phillips. one granddaughter, Kennedy Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
