Emma Jean Shadd, 70, of Parkersburg, formerly of Boone County, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Charleston Area Medical Center.
She was born in Logan County on Christmas Day 1953, a daughter of the late John R. and Rebecca Marie Wiley Woody.
Emma loved the Lord, praising the Lord, and telling others of His grace and mercy, listening to gospel music, and singing. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hilltop Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in North Fork, West Virginia. She enjoyed quilting, shopping, especially at Gabe's, and eating at Cracker Barrell, watching videos on her phone and MASH on television; and she loved spending time with her family.
Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of loved ones, including her daughters, Crystal Vest (William) and Jessica Arthur (Christopher); son, Joshua Shadd; grandchildren, Adam Vest (Casey), Ashley Vest (Jessica), Nate Vest (Rachel), Benjamin Vest (Malayna), and Rylee Shadd; great-grandchildren, Palmer and Callaway Vest; her siblings, Delmas Woody, Frances Woody, Samuel Woody (Kelly), Timothy Woody, and Letha Burchett; and her friend and caregiver, Layla Seldon, to whom Emma's family would like to send a very special thank you for the love she gave.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Tommy Lee Shadd; grandson, Noah Shadd; and two brothers, Tom Woody and John Woody.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, 301 Daniel Boone Parkway, Foster, WV 25081 with Pastor James Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mills, West Virginia. Her family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Worship Center.
