Emma Louise Mitchell Whyte, 87 years old, peacefully passed away on Monday August 11, 2025, at the Green Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Emma hoped to attend the 100th Annual Quander Family Reunion occurring the second weekend in August 2025. Her grandmother was a founding member of the reunion which began in 1926. Emma could not attend the reunion but was there in spirit and missed by all who attended.

Emma (also known as "Hon") was born on March 4, 1938, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to the late Lewis Albert and Maude Elizabeth Mitchell. She grew up in a little subsection of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, known as Howellville. Emma grew up being taught that color was not an issue and played with everyone in her neighborhood.

In 1977, Emma married George Whyte Jr. They resided in Paoli, PA, where they started their own business. Emma was an integral part of the business often driving the truck on their routes.

Emma was an avid swimmer, and her favorite swimmer was Esther Williams (Olympic swimmer and actress). She shared her love of swimming with her children teaching them all to swim.

Emma was a member of Highway Mission Church in Berwyn, PA under the pastorate of the late Elder Lillian Jackson and later a member of Refuge Pentecostal Church under the pastorate of the late Elder Thelma Richey. Emma along with friends and family helped Elder Jackson to build the Highway Mission Church which later became Refuge Pentecostal Church.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Maude Mitchell; six brothers: Elmer, Harry, Lewis Jr., James (Jimmy), John (Harvey) and Joseph Mitchell; three sisters: Mildred, June and Laura and one granddaughter, Leslie Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Rodney and Billy (Lisa); two daughters: Louella (Beauty) and Toby; niece, Kay Mitchell (who was raised as a sister); two sisters-in-law; Linda Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rev. Dr. Joan Mitchell of Willingboro, NJ, Goddaughter Asia Mitchell; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews. She is also survived by a very special cousin, Pippa Howard, who stood by Emma until the end.
