Emmett Franklin Daugherty

Emmett Franklin Daugherty, 88, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday February 2, 2025, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born April 27, 1936, in Daviess County, to the late John and Nellie Jennings Daugherty.

Mr. Daugherty served his country with the United States Army, 198th Infantry Brigade. He also proudly served his community as a member of the Owensboro City Fire Department as a hose man, driver, rescue scuba diver, and lastly, as a Lieutenant on the ladder truck. Emmett was the first driver of the first ladder truck in Owensboro. He retired from the fire department after 30 years of valiant service. Emmett was a hard worker and took his responsibility of taking care of his family seriously, sometimes working two or three additional jobs on his days off from the fire department. No job was beneath him if it meant it would meet the needs of his family.

Emmett enjoyed watching old western movies, playing card games, deer hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and visiting with his family. He attended Greater Vision Church until his health prevented him from doing so.

Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virginia “Jenn” Daugherty; a stepson, Larry Wheatley; grandson, Christopher Roberts; and his brother and 4 sisters.

Emmett is survived by four daughters, Elise Daugherty Chandler, Emma Shellene Davis, both of Owensboro, Yulandia (Tim) Kalafut of Deltona, FL, and Thelia (Charlie) Farmer; grandchildren, Laurie (Ronald) Sapp, Nikki Sebree-Ligon, Misty (Jon) Payne, Richard (Karina) and Jacob (Darcella) Roberts, Shellena (Josh) Smith, Bryan and Kevin Dant, Terra (Chris) Napier and Charles Farmer Jr; three step granddaughters, April Burns, Nikki Duncan, and Meschelle Luciano; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the amazing care dad received from his caregivers, Leslie, Kay, Chiania and Rachael. If it had not been for you, he would not have been able to stay in his home up until 2 days before his passing. You were amazing and he loved each of you.

The funeral service for Emmett Daugherty will be at 2 p.m. Friday February 7, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. The entombment will at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
