Mrs. Emolene Ennis Traugh, age 88, of Buford, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Brownwood Cemetery, Sandersville, Ga. Reverend Weston Williford will officiate. Mrs. Traugh's family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Traugh was born in the Deepstep area of Washington County, daughter of the late Kenneth Ennis and the late Louise Franks Newman. She was reared in Sandersville where she graduated from Sandersville High School. She graduated from Georgia College for Women with a bachelor's degree in music. Following college, she moved to Atlanta and began fulfilling her lifelong love of music. She sang and played the piano with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. While a resident of Atlanta, Mrs.Traugh was a writer for T.V. Guide. She married her late husband Neale G. Traugh and transitioned to Huntsville Alabama, her home for many years. She worked for NASA, was a homemaker and raised her two girls. Later they moved to Panama, where Neale worked for the Panama Canal Commission, and she was a substitute teacher. Following stints at living in Columbia, SC., Ozark AL., and Fayetteville NC., she and Neale retired to her childhood home of Sandersville, where she cared for her elderly mother. She was a member of Sandersville First Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth T. Brown and her husband Michael of Buford, GA., and Diana T. Denley and her husband Sean of Summerville, SC., and her grandson Alexander Neale Brown.
