Enid Thompson Obituary

Enid Henderson Thompson

1929 ~ 2025

Enid Henderson Thompson peacefully went home to our Heavenly Father on May 9, 2025. She lived a long and wonderful life. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Enid was born on July 22, 1929, in Cannonville, Utah. She was the sixth of eight children and the youngest daughter of Sarah Ismay Clark Henderson and Wallace Dickson Henderson.

She grew up in the small southern Utah town of Cannonville, where everyone was known as "Aunt" and "Uncle" even if they were not related. Enid enjoyed spending time outside and climbing the red rocks that are so prevalent in the area. She also was a very good softball player. As she got older, she worked at Ruby's Inn as a cabin maid for extra pocket money to spend in the "big city" of Panguitch.

Enid was a very good student. She graduated second in her class from Tropic High School and received a scholarship to attend Dixie State College in St. George, Utah.

Upon graduating from college, she moved to Salt Lake City, where she worked in the office at The McCune Mansion. Sometime later, she was asked to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called to serve in the East Central States mission. She particularly enjoyed her time in Kentucky and West Virginia.

After returning home, she attended a mission fireside and met her future husband, Jay Alan Thompson, who had served in her same mission. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 2, 1954. They welcomed four sons and one daughter into their home.

Enid was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served in many callings. She loved attending the temple with her husband and remained true and faithful throughout her life. She was an avid journal writer. She rarely missed a day recording her thoughts and the events of her daily life.

She served 2 more missions with her husband-first to the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission, where they helped the small branch in Olean, New York, qualify for a meeting house, and second to the Illinois Chicago Mission, where she became proficient in using a computer.

Her computer skill was a great blessing to her, as later in life she discovered her love for, and gift in, doing extraction work for those who had died. She had many miraculous experiences while doing this work. She was recognized for extracting well over half a million names.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years Jay; her children Cory (Vonya), Kyle (Katy), Krey (Francine); and her daughter, Alana Davis. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Earlene Henderson and Charlotte Huntsman (Ned), and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her son Clayne, grandson Brendan, daughter-in-law Robin and son-in-law Kirk Davis. Her parents and her brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. We find peace in knowing of the joyful reunion she is having with so many loved ones.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Woodstock Ward chapel, 1160 E. Vine Street, Murray, Utah. A viewing will take place one hour prior, starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens following the funeral services,1075 E. 4580 S., Millcreek, UT.

Dear sweet Enid had a profound effect on my life when I was a young mother and we served together exercising a young boy with physical and mental handicaps. She gave me good sound advice in her quiet way about compassion and love. She and Jay were an answer to prayer one night when I hadn't planned to attend a RS meeting but was so glad I did when they presented information I needed to hear to prepare me for the birth of my grandson the next morning. And that's how it went as she popped into my life at various times and places, including yesterday. I had wanted to attend her funeral and pay my respects but family needs took precedence and as I was lamenting not being there I could hear her say with her arm around me, you're where you need to be today Kathy. I love Enid and am so grateful for the short time her life touched mine.
May you, her family, all be blessed with the peace and joy that comes from a life well-lived.

Sister Enid was a bright glow in any room. Her ready quiet smile made friends and strangers feel welcome.
I love photo 23 in the attached album: Enid's hand on his chest and Jay's hand on her shoulder. This was a frequent sight. Their love and bond is eternal.
My condolences to Jay and all of her family. Until we meet again.

Enid was such a very sweet woman. She will be missed. I'm sure her and my Grandma Luana Cowan are hugging and excited for their future.
