Enoch Evans, a retired US Army veteran, passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 92 in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born on June 10, 1931, in Newton, Mississippi, to Purvis Evans and Frances Evans White.

 

Enoch dedicated 20 years of his life to serving in the US Army, where he displayed unwavering commitment and bravery. After his military service, he ventured into various professions, including owning Evans Pawns and Loans in Manitou Springs, Colorado, during the 1980s. He also worked as a private detective for a few years.

 

Outside of work, Enoch had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting and selling guns, gold panning, and coin collecting. In his younger years, he owned and showcased Peruvian Paso horses and excelled in track and field events. Notably, he achieved first place in the 200-yard dash at the 8th Annual USAREUR Track and Field competition in 1953. In 1951, he participated in the 100-yard dash, 200-yard dash, and 400-meter relay. He won several other trophies and medals in track and field.

 

Enoch was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Lee Jackson, and his parents, Purvis Evans and Frances Evans White. He was also preceded by his son-in-law, Anthony Bair-Bey.

 

He is survived by his loving spouse, Juanita Evans of Gulfport, and his children, Felecia Evans Bair-Bey of Jamaica, NY, and Ghana Evans (Pam Paradis-Evans) of Colorado Springs, CO. Enoch is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Crank of Gastonia, NC, and a host of numerous other family members.

 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, located at 11280 Three Rivers Rd. Gulfport, MS 39503. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the same location. Full military honors will follow at the end of the service. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception center.
