Enoch Prather Obituary

On Saturday, November 16, my funny, sweet husband of 40 years made the decision to stop invasive medical procedures and chose "comfort care" instead. He passed away at 6:43 p.m. in the ICU at Mission Hospital, where he received extraordinary care. Like my brother, Steve, who died on November 14, 2016, Sandy was escorted from this realm to the next by the light of a Super Moon, the last one of 2024. This moon & the moon when Steve died, are appropriately called The Mourning Moon. Sandy would have celebrated his 71st birthday on December 17th.
He was the beloved son of Enoch Calloway Prather, Jr. and Mary Catherine Stalvey Prather, and Virginia (Gin) Dare Middleton Moody, as well as the adored brother of Catherine Prather Loewen & David Loewen. Sandy had so many people who loved him...my family, including my son, Mike, wife Tyra & grandsons Nick & Connor; Phyllis, Bev, Phil, Bruce, Todd, Lara & Tristan Byrns, who was for years literally the light of Sandy's life; wonderful friends, & many clients, some of whom had been with him for 30 years.
One of the last things Sandy said to those in his room was "I'm really gonna miss all of you. Will you tell everyone I didn't get to see that I love them and will miss them, too."
Sandy was a golfer who spent 100's of hours playing the game and hanging out with his friends. He loved to fish and could spend an entire day casting some special bait, hoping to catch "the big one". He was funny one friend said, "He had the best one liners of anyone I ever knew". He was sweet natured and loving; we never missed telling each other "I love you" on the phone or before going to sleep. I knew the night I met him, I would marry him. He could drive me crazy, but his sense of humor got us through the worst times and kept me smiling for 40 plus years. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.
Special thanks to Ryan Edwards, who sat with Sandy in the hospital on many nights so I could get some rest; to Lara Byrns and Todd Byrns, our niece & nephew, who have sustained and helped us in ways too numerous to list; to Pam Tripp, Steve's partner of over 30 years, who has been there every step of the way, and has already traveled the sad and difficult journey I'm just beginning; to his sister Catherine & her wonderful husband, David, who battled the traffic from Brevard & gave me love & strength in the midst of their own pain; and to our sweet friends who brought food & checked on him, and me, almost every day.
Sandy's memorial celebration will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7th, at the Green Tee Grill at the Black Mountain Golf Course. Please come prepared to share your favorite Sandy story.
