Erby Burton Obituary
Erby "Buddy" Dalmas Burton, III, of Leland, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on December 5, 1952, in Wilmington, Buddy spent his entire life in the community he loved and served.
For over 20 years, Buddy was the proud owner and operator of B&B Bait & Tackle/Fresh Seafood in Carolina Beach, where he was known for his warm smile and welcoming nature. A devoted commercial fisherman throughout his life, Buddy was passionate about the sea and all it provided. His genuine interest in people meant he never met a stranger, a quality that led to his role in the indie film "Moss," which was filmed in his shop.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Buddy had a beloved hobby of metal detecting for Civil War relics. Over more than three decades, he uncovered many treasures, each with its own story and connection to the past.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Erby D. Burton, Jr. and Mary Catherine Pugh Burton; his son, Christopher Burton; his sister, Margaret Faircloth; and his brother, Billy E. Burton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Dawn Burton; his sons, Adam Burton and his wife Jennifer, and Jonathan Burton and his wife Laura; his daughter, Angela Cain; and his sister, Lorraine Register. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with his special niece, Bene Closson, numerous other nieces and nephews, and extended family members. His loyal companions, pets "Molly" and "Moe," will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel, led by Pastor Gordon Powell. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the Chapel.
