Eric Steven Duck

Eric Steven Duck quietly departed on Wednesday May 3rd, 2023, at the age of 71 years. Eric will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Kimberly Guidry Duck and his children, Tessa (Joe) Sonnier, Alyssa Leger, his 3 grandchildren, Conner Joseph and Adalynn Paige Sonnier, Ellis Fayne Leger and numerous cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rodney and Barbara (DeBate) Duck; Grandparents, Hobson and Bessie (Carpenter) Duck; Otto and Thelma (Mizell) DeBate.
After graduating Rapides High School, Eric attended Louisiana Tech University where he earned his degree in civil engineering. Through out his career his work consisted of projects of diverse nature including highway design, drainage improvements, river and pipeline design, water systems, gas distributions, as well as overseeing maintenance of lakes, roads, and bridges within Rapides Parish. He maintained memberships to the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the State and Local Louisiana Engineering Societies.
Eric was raised in Forest Hill where his family was in the timber industry. As a boy, he worked along side his father, Rodney in the family sawmill. He loved math and investing in the community. Eric was actively involved in professional organizations and held copious positions including President of the local chapter, State Director for the Engineers Selection Board, Chairman for Professional Engineers in Government as well as Chairman for the Scholarship, Membership, and Young Engineers Committee. For many years he volunteered and aided in the coordination of the local and state Mathcounts competitions. He also assisted in the formation of the Commercial Building Energy Conservation Code for the State of Louisiana.
He was devoted father, an avid duck hunter, and a story teller. Eric's stories became the link between the generations teaching the importance of family and influencing those that were fortunate to hear them. He will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
A Funeral Service in memory of Eric will be held on Monday, May 08, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Mary Mother of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Paul LaPalme officiating. Interment will follow at Butter's Cemetery in Forest Hill, LA. Visitation will be at 9:30 until service time at Mary Mother Church in Woodworth, LA.
The family has requested memorials to Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge 2609 River Street New Orleans, LA 70121.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Cory Hearn, Harvey "Sonny" Scruggs, Jesse Crouch, Greg Havard, Joe Sonnier and Jason Duck. Honorary Pallbearers include David Mizell, Rodney Duck, Michael S. Guidry and David B. Guidry.
