March 22,1941 to September 26,2025
Come and Go Visitation and Reception with Family – LBWCC Dixon Conference Center Tuesday night, September 30, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Memorial Service for Eric Lidh - St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1307 E. Three Notch Street,
Andalusia, AL 36420 Wednesday, October 1, at 11:00 AM.
Eric Scott Lidh – loving husband, doting father and grandfather, devoted educator, transformative mentor, and passionate performer – passed away after a life rich in teaching, storytelling, and community service. He was 84.
Born and raised in Boston, Eric's love for language and theatre took root early in his life. After completing his education in music at Taylor University in Indiana and then in speech at his beloved alma mater Northwestern University in Evanson, Illinois, Eric began a teaching career at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, Illinois, where he taught English, speech, and theatre. In 1972, he took his family to Wilmore, Kentucky, where he taught speech and drama at Asbury College for four years.
Eric eventually made
Andalusia, Alabama, his home, where he joined the faculty of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBWCC) in 1977.
Over the course of 46 years, he taught speech, drama, and theatre to thousands of students, directed dozens of plays, and oversaw LBW's celebrated "travel shows," which brought live theatre to schools across the region. Through these performances, more than 350,000 children experienced the magic of theatre-many for the very first time.
Outside of the classroom, Eric became a treasured fixture in the local arts scene through his iconic portrayal of Herr Drosselmeyer in the Andalusia Ballet's Nutcracker.
From 1982 until his farewell season in 2024, he enchanted more than 100,000 audience members and become a beloved figure for generations of dancers and families. His unique interpretation of Drosselmeyer – especially that laugh! – made him unforgettable to audiences young and old.
His contributions were recognized by the community he served so faithfully and for so long. The Andalusia Junior Women's Club honored him with a
Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his decades of influence as both teacher and artist. Former students describe him as patient, caring, and inspiring-an educator who always took time to listen and who believed deeply in the potential of every individual.
Eric's devotion extended beyond his professional life. He cherished time with his family, who were his constant source of joy and happiness. He is survived by his wife, Bobbi; his children, Scott, Kevin, Lisa, and Todd; by his sister-in-law Jonni; his nephew, Brian; his step-children, Ashleigh, Mab, Alyssa, and Amanda; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Jacob, Jamie, Megan, Christopher, Michael, Jason, Brandon, Ransom, Elsa, August, Alistair, and Winona – all of whom he was immensely proud and who brought him constant pleasure; and by his many great-grandchildren and great-grand stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gari; his sister, Cera; and one grandson, Jordan.
No one could tell a story quite like Eric, and his larger-than-life presence will be missed. But his legacy is one of generosity, artistry, and lasting impact. He leaves behind a community made better by his presence, countless students who carry his lessons forward, and a family who will forever treasure his love.
