Eric Olivier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Samart Funeral Home of Houma - Bayou Blue on Feb. 19, 2026.
Eric John Olivier, 80, of Schriever, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by family, on February 16, 2026. He will be deeply missed by his family, wife of 58 years, Karen Pollet Olivier; sons Eric Olivier, Jr. and Troy Olivier (Vicki) of Schriever, LA; daughter Lannette Landry of Montgomery, TX; grandchildren, Devon Olivier (Courtney), Erica Foret (Roy), Victoria Venters (Lane), Hannah Haymark, Halaina Haymark, Bryce Olivier, Brayden Olivier; bonus grands, Logan and Andrew; three great-grandchildren, London, Beckham and Levi; siblings Beverly Tucker of Gray, LA; Pearl Wilcox (Don) of Shreveport, LA; Eugene "Gene" Olivier of Cocoa Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Olivier of Lake Charles, LA and Alice Olivier of Baton Rouge, LA; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Sylviere Olivier and mother, Katie Roddy Olivier; brothers, Earl Olivier and Elton Olivier; sisters, Marion Olivier and Lorraine Olivier Richard.

After graduating in 1963 from Terrebonne High School, Eric proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. He served three years on U.S.S. Arcadia AD-23. Upon an honorable discharge in 1966, Eric began his machinist career that he loved for 59 years. He was forced to retire after being diagnosed with Mesothelioma. Besides his machinist trade, he was an inventor always trying to make something better, often succeeding in. Woodworking was another passion of his making beautiful fishing and hunting knives capturing the beauty of the various woods he used for the unique handles. His latest enjoyment was the backscratchers that so many were fortunate to receive. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed taking his family and friends on weekly fishing trips in surrounding bayous and lakes. He loved nature and enjoyed feeding the birds, ducks and lizards who frequented his yard, the turtles and fish in the pond and spending time with his cats, Boots, Midnight, and Pebbles.

He was not a stranger to those he met and was always joking with all. He loved his family, loved to share his knowledge as his grandkids can lovingly attest to.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors at St. Bridget Cemetery, Schriever, LA on February 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM.

His family wishes to thank Dr. Chester Boudreaux and staff, Dr. Gerardo Arias and staff, Thibodaux Regional Cancer Institute Staff, and Hope Hospice Staff especially his nurses, Crystal Oncale and Jennifer Hartman.
