A memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Eric Donell Richardson, age 61, a native of Jackson, AL and a resident of Houston, TX will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, 11am at Andrews Funeral Home Chapel One, 800 Depot Road, Jackson, AL 36545.

Obituary

Eric Donell Richardson, age 61, was born August 23, 1964 in Mobile, AL to the parentage of Mr. Vaughn Richardson and Ms. Mary Jeanette Henry Miller. Eric departed this life Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, Houston, TX.

Eric was raised in Jackson, AL. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Family Church, St. Union Missionary Baptist Church. Eric sang in the F. D. Craig Chorus and Young Adult Choir. He was also active as a Crusader and in other youth ministries.

Eric was educated in the Clarke County School System and attended Joe M. Gilmore Elementary School, Jackson Middle School and spent his early high school years at Jackson High School. He relocated to Detroit, MI where he attended high school and later joined the Job Corps. He became a certified welder and worked as a cement mason. He also worked in the construction industry. Eric was affiliated with several Houston-based Christian ministries.

Affectionately called "Vonzip" and "Alabama", Eric loved all types of sports, but especially University of Alabama Football, "Roll Tide".

He was a proud son, brother, uncle, and friend. Charismatic and a smooth talker, Eric would befriend everyone he met and enjoyed lending his voice in the Salvation Army of Houston, TX. He loved to be around family and watching sports. Eric was a true Alabama fan. His favorite foods included fried chicken and sweet potato pie. When visiting Jackson, he made sure he ordered a steak burger from Billy's Burger House, a local eatery.

Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Moses and Martha Henry and his paternal grandparents. Also preceding his in death were maternal and paternal aunts and uncles.

Eric is survived by his mother: Mary Jeanette Henry Miller of Noblesville, IN; father: Vaughn Richardson of Detroit, MI; brothers: Charles Henry of St. Louis, MO; LaVaughn Martin of Jackson, AL, Kim (Sarah) Richardson of Birmingham, AL, and LaShavian (Jacqueline) Richardson of St. Louis, MO; sisters: Regina (Glynn) Robinson of Jackson, AL; LaJuan (Terrence) Epperson of Noblesville, IN; Felicia (Gerald) Armbister of Detroit, MI and Vonnae Clark of Detroit, MI; Uncles Abraham (Eurcile) Henry of Houston Texas, Johnny (Shirley) Henry of Detroit, MI, Jimmy Henry of Detroit, MI, Charlie Richardson of Maryland, Donnie Richardson of South Carolina, and aunts Zelma Richardson of Cleveland, OH and Dorothy Richardson of Cleveland, OH. and a host of nieces and nephews.
