Erik Michael Leindecker, 48, passed away on October 8th, 2022 in Schaumburg. Born in Elgin, IL, he was the beloved firstborn of Richard and Christine Leindecker. He attended James B. Conant High School, where he graduated in 1992. After graduation, he developed the artistry of his craft as a concrete mason. His art, work, attention to detail, impeccable work ethic, and kind heart touched so many people, businesses, and homes throughout the area. He devoted most of his time to family, work, and his faith service. He enjoyed expressing himself through art and service to community. He had a love for learning and recentering shown through learning new languages, yoga, meditation, long walks, and expansion of his artistic works.
He was a faithful follower of the Sikh religion with affiliations at Wheaton Gurdwara, ILSCC. He would volunteer seva at Palatine Gurdwara, SRS Chicago and other areas. Always offering seva in the kitchen and langar after the divan finished for cleanup, joining for food drives, parades, and projects. His love, service and kindness were shown through his work, family, and sharing in his faith community. His smile and warm heart will be missed by so many after taking his final walk on this earth. May he always be looking over us. His smile may have faded, but his memories made will never be forgotten.

I always saw Erik doing service in the kitchen at the Science of Spirituality Meditation Center. He is a big inspiration to me. I remember having met him there many years ago - maybe 15 or 20. At that time he seemed to be still figuring things out. But then seeing him in later years, he seemed to have figured it out - that the most important thing is service to others and putting in time for spiritual practices. I will hold his memory in my heart and mind of what making the most of this life looks like. Sending love to his family.

My condolences to Erik´s family and friends. May you be blessed with strength during this time. Erik or Kharak Singh and I have had many conversations from which I learnt a great deal about the religion, selflessness, kindness and life in general. Such an amazing and deep soul that I had the privilege of knowing. God bless

Erik and I grew up together, we both went to James B. Conant H.S. (1992). Thinking back he was a great friend and artist. Unfortunately we drifted away from each other after graduation. My fondest memory of Erik was our "B" team touchdown play. We both played football freshman and sophomore year at Conant. Erik was our quarterback and I played runningback. We had a really talented team but we didn´t play much, we were the "second stringers". But we did finally have our night of glory under the big lights. We must of been ahead by quite a bit, so coach told Leindecker to get his offense ready to take the field and close out the game. We were all nervous and excited but Erik was cool and calm and kept us in line. We ran a fake hand-off and screen pass, for some reason everything went right on that play. We all did our jobs, I made the catch and scampered 40 yards for the touchdown! That single moment was a highlight for many of us "second stringers" and Erik orchestrated the whole thing. It was a magically night that I, and I am sure others, have carried in our memories. You know who you are.

Then fast forward to the 21st century. My wife runs a charitable organization and one day she mentioned the name Erik Leindecker?! Could it be the same Erik? It sure was. Erik contacted my wife to help with some neglected dogs he saw on a job site. Erik mentioned to my wife that he and I went to H.S. together and said, "Ask your husband if he still remembers the screen pass?" He held onto that memory too. We both had a good laugh. Unfortunately I never go the chance to meet the man that he became but him reaching out to help neglected animals and reading about his dedication to community and serving others tells me exactly who he was. Compassion like this is rare and something to acknowledge when it comes around. You will be missed Erik. R.I.P.

I had pleasure of knowing Eric over the years. Always willing to help where he can and how-so-ever he could. Never saw him just gossiping or wandering around. Always serious, and doing some work/Seva.
It was my fortunate day on 9/10/2022 Saturday, I saw him at Wheaton Gurdwara, and when I came to SRS Palatine that evening, he was there in the kitchen helping. We had a friendly exchange. Thereafter I requested him to talk with a youth who needed some direction. Eric spent about half an hour with this youth and later on talked to me about it at a high level.
A very gentlemanly person. Our society needed his kind of personality. Left too soon. Will miss you brother.
