It's with a heavy heart that we have to share the news that Erik Lindstrom unexpectedly passed away in his sleep this past Sunday, February 12th, 2023 at the age of 37.
Erik was a kind and patient soul who left this world far before his time. An engineer at heart, he was a tinkerer and a mechanic who was undaunted by technical challenges he encountered in his many hobbies such as cars, motorcycles, computers, 3D printing, among others. Although sometimes an introvert, he glowed when around both friends and strangers and would easily strike up conversations with anyone he met. More than anything, though, when we saw Erik shine the brightest was when he had the opportunity to share his extensive knowledge through teaching. At just 7 years old he started as a camper at HIYC Sailing Camp and returning summer after summer he would grow to become an instructor and eventually a head counselor of PPYC Sailing Camp. After completing his BS in Mechanical Engineering from UT Knoxville, he worked as an engineer for Schneider Electric but could often be found getting his kicks on the weekends racing his BMW M3 or his motorcycle down the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina.
After transitioning to software development via a course at Nashville Software School, he was hired as a teaching assistant and mentor for new students as he excelled at sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Like many in our family, sailing was a constant in his life and he would often take friends and family out on Percy Priest Lake to show them the ropes. He left us far too soon and we truly can't articulate how much he will be missed by family and the many lives that he touched over the years. Rest in peace. You will forever be in our hearts and on our minds.
We are not planning a formal memorial event in the near future, but when his ashes find their way to some of the many waters he enjoyed over his too short life, an occasion for remembering Erik will occur for us and his friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either Pencil Nashville (https://pencilforschools.org/) or the Nashville Food Project (https://www.thenashvillefoodproject.org/) in his honor, as Erik volunteered for both charities in recent years.

Erik was a wonderful friend. I met Erik at NSS. He was very patient and always willing to help. We stayed friends after school. I enjoyed talking with him about movies, family, and life in general. He was someone I could go to for advice. I had the pleasure of sailing with him and some friends. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to his family! Erik loved his family dearly and he gave with all his heart. He helped me many times with projects throughout the years. His absence is deeply felt by those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. He truly was one of a kind.
