We are heartbroken to share that our beloved Erik died peacefully on August 18th due to complications of living courageously for 38 years with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy -18 years past his original life-expectancy, a credit to his own sheer grit.
Erik was born June 19, 1986 to John and Suzanne Severson who raised him in the St Therese of Deephaven community whose school he attended through Middle School. During those years he spent summers taking art classes at Minnetonka Center for the Arts, then on to Minnetonka High School. It was there that he discovered his love of airbrush, his chosen medium.
Erik was an incredibly talented graphic design artist, receiving his BFA from Minneapolis College of Art & Design in 2008. He spent the happiest years of his life there creating art.
Erik had a keen mind and a wicked sense of humor. He loved Shakespeare, music, video games, gourmet food, and movies, especially Stars Wars. He was an excellent chef, with cooperative helpers making it possible to serve up amazing dishes. He took exception to dishes not up to his high standards.
It was a privilege to care for him, even on the most difficult days. He was always gracious and kind, having both the patience and afflictions of Job, his chosen Confirmation name. He received loving care from many individuals throughout his life from PCA's, doctors and nurses, friends, and his family. We thank each and every one of you for your efforts and kindness that allowed him the freedom to live his life as he wanted.
John and Suzanne, along with brother Steven, sister Elizabeth, sister-in-law Cassandra, best friend Dave Rannow, and his beloved niece Elowyn and nephew Marcel (both of whom he adored) are left with huge holes in their hearts and deep regret that they didn't have more time to love their son, brother, friend, and uncle. We are comforted by knowing Erik is no longer suffering, and was met on the other side by his sister Anna Marie, best buddy Evan Wilson, grandparents Sy & Kathleen Pate and Jack & Jini Severson. Erik is survived by many more loving family members, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and their children.
We invite you to join us at Erik's Celebration of Life and Love on Sunday, September 15, 2024, 2:00 pm at Minneapolis College of Art & Design, 2501 Stevens Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404 with reception to follow immediately at the college. Memorial donations preferred to Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy (parentprojectmd.org). Thank you for your many prayers for our family in this time and throughout the years.

Dear family and friends of this wonderful young man, please know that even though we've never met and I did not have the privilege of knowing your dear Erik, I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. He lived such an incredible life and what a gift he must have been to all of you. While reading the beautifully written story of his life, I just imagined how he could now dance among all the stars in the universe. May God comfort all of you. Well done, good and faithful servants. May God bring you peace and comfort.

I´m so sorry to hear of Erik´s passing. I´ll always remember him with that quick smile and seemingly endless trove of Star Wars intel. A great man from a great family.
