Erika E. Kirkman, a long time resident of Cumberland County, passed away 11 December, 2023.
Through hard work and determination, she rose from humble beginnings to become a Post Exchange (PX) Manager. In time, she met the love of her life and they embarked on a lifetime journey of togetherness filling each day to the brim.
She had a talent for refurbishing old items, turning the strangest finds into works of art. As a leftie, she taught herself to knit and crochet; knitting children's clothing and crocheting whatever struck her fancy. Designs were of her own creation and crafted without the use of a pattern. She visualized what she wanted to make and turned that vision into reality.
Inspired by her father (who was an orchestra member and taught music), she learned to play various musical instruments at an early age.
In recent times, she grieved the passing of her husband, Robert L. Kirkman, Sr., and her son, Robert L. Kirkman, Jr. Now she, too, has been called home. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Monique Fowler and husband, Terry; daughter-in-law, Chong Kirkman; grandsons, Weslee (and wife Melody) Fowler; Robin Kirkman; great grandsons, Alex Fowler; Trace Fowler, and family and friends around the world.
A special thank you to Dr. Whisiker-Lewis and Dr. Welsh, Internal Medicine, Womack, Fort Liberty, NC, for all their support, inspiration, kindness and caring during the past year.
As we mourn our loss, in her memory, today and always, remember her in your own way and take a moment to share a random act of kindness with someone.
