Erliene Rachel Shelton, 88, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, following a short illness. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great-grandmother and pillar of her community, Erliene leaves a legacy defined by quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family.
Born on August 6, 1937, in Wharton, Texas, to Daniel and Anna Boerger, Erliene grew up surrounded by the values of hard work, dedication, and service to others-principles that would guide her throughout her life. She married Jerry Shelton on 26 June 1957 and shared 60 years of love, laughter, faith, and their family.
Erliene was a proud business owner and banker, known for her integrity and professionalism. However, her heart was always with her family and her Lutheran faith. She was a devoted and active member of her church for over 70 years, quietly supporting its mission and members with steadfast dedication and grace.
Erliene was perhaps best known for her quiet presence and exceptional listening skills. She was a source of calm and wisdom for all who knew her, dedicated both to her church and to her beloved family. Her class and elegance shone through in everything she did. Erliene had an extraordinary gift for embroidery and could revive any piece of laundry with her magical touch, finding joy in the simplest acts of care.
Above all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding her greatest happiness in their laughter and company.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Shelton, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. She was also preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Anna Boerger, daughter Karen Walker, brother Bill Boerger, sisters Elizabeth Simon and Anna Haddock, and grandson Scott Shelton. Erliene is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Greenlee of Hobbs, grandkids Brandon McGill and wife Elizabeth of Colorado Springs, CO, and Hollie Silva and husband Emanuel of Hobbs, son-in-law Terry Walker, and grandkids, Sara Lopez and husband Ed and Kristi Walker, fourteen great-grandkids Jessica and husband Jacob, Jaden, Trinity, Chloe, Scott, Branton, Miley, Justice, Emma, Jaxen, Keera, Audrey, Bryce, and Lucas, and two great-great-grandchildren Ezra and LaRayiah who will miss her deeply and continue to celebrate her remarkable life.
