Erma Burkhart Obituary
Erma M. (Hetrick) Burkhart, 94, formerly of Limekiln, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026 in Lewes, DE. She was the wife of the late Leon C. Burkhart. Born in Douglas Township, she was a daughter of the late Clair C. and Ruth (Mattern) Hetrick. Erma was a graduate of Oley Valley High School and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church-Spangsville.
Erma is survived by a son, Philip H. Burkhart husband of Tammy of Exeter Township and two daughters, Joyce Ann, wife of Gary Salter of South Whitehall Township and Cindy R., wife of Mark Ambrosiani of Wyomissing; seven grandchildren, Troy, Kaitlyn, Kelly, Kevin, Alex, Eric and Sara Ann; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Dylan, Piper and Ruthvi; one sister, Isabella Rhodes of Fleetwood; and one brother, Harold Hetrick of Oley. She was pre-deceased by two sons, Curtis and Barry; brothers, Roy and Merrill and sisters, Alice, Evelyn, Betty and Dorothy.
Erma worked at Boscov's as a buyer as well as managing Van Heusen and Damon stores. Later in life she attended Penn State and became a Realtor. She was president of the Home Builder's Women's Club. Erma was a member of the Exeter Women's Club and participated in their book club.
Erma enjoyed the outdoors, her flowers, her swimming pool and family gatherings. She traveled to her and Leon's favorite place, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for 30 years. Erma was a member of Flying Dutchman Ski Club for many years and enjoyed skiing out west as well as in Europe. She dearly loved her family, friends and relatives and was dearly loved by them. Erma will be greatly missed!
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, February 10, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. A service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 beginning at 12:00 noon at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W. Neversink Rd, Exeter Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church-Spangsville, 325 Covered Bridge Rd, Oley, PA 19547. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with arrangemetns.
