Erma was born on February 24, 1947 in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Jarboe) Kleinsorge. On May 28, 1965 she married William Earl Dunn, at the Middletown United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2016.

Erma was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church and led the Sunday School Youth Group in her younger years. She was a 4-H Project Leader for Sewing and Cooking and was a member of the Middletown Harmony Club. She additionally worked as a paraprofessional at McIntire Elementary and the Early Childhood Education Center with Fulton Public Schools and later at Montgomery County R-2.

Family meant everything to Erma, and more than anything she loved her grandchildren and spending time with them, joyfully attending every event and activity they were involved in. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, camping, traveling and especially loved taking scenic drives, often choosing quiet gravel roads on her way home.
