Ernest P. Ballard, (Ernie) in the City of Winchester, Virginia, died peacefully at his home on January 4th, 2025. He had just celebrated his 83rd birthday the month before with his children and grandchildren. He was the son of the late Victor Sr, and the late Bernice Ballard He is survived by his wife Beverly (nee Cott), his children, Heather Carper (Derek), Amber Miller (Christopher) and the late Michael (Christina) He is also survived by his grandchildren, Skyler Ballard, Leann Rose, Natalee Housden, Rowhyn Ballard, Lilyana Ballard, Abigail Miller, Michael Ballard Jr., Charlotte Miller and the late Faith Rose He is also survived by his brothers, Carlos (Martha), Donald (Merry), Victor, Harold (Rita) and the late Walter Ballard. He was survived by many nieces and nephews
Ernie had a remarkable life and overcame many physical obstacles. Throughout his life he was an inspiration to his family and the people he met and the many lives he touched with the stories he shared about his life. He turned his many physical struggles into victories, The stories he shared, and he always had time to tell a story, captivated those who took the time to listen. He truly enjoyed talking about his life and family. Spending time and being with his family was always what he wanted to do.
Ernie was a big NASCAR fan and would watch all the races with enthusiasm each week. And when football season was here, you could find him watching his favorite teams. Although Ernie considered himself a master of the outdoor grill he enjoyed indoor cooking just as much and would always get the family involved in the kitchen. He always had time to listen and be there for those who needed him
Ernie will be missed by those who knew him. He loved the Lord and was faithful all his life, and he would want us to remember, "Trust in the Lord with all your Heart" (Proverbs 3:5) and to remember to always "Love one another, for love comes from God" (1 John 4:7)
You will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held for Ernest on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a reception to follow at Omps Reception Center.

My Uncle Ernie was a true Christian man that truly loved the Lord. He had many places in my life. He was my Uncle, Brother, Teacher, Friend, and always there when I needed him. He has been blessed by his wife Beverly, and his children. We will always love our Uncle Ernie.
