Ernest (Lee) Cook, 65, passed away at his home in Canistota on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Lee Cook was born June 5, 1960 in Florida to Ernest and Ilene (Poyfair) Cook. He worked for many years as an independent contractor and as a jack of all trades, each job provided an opportunity to demonstrate his skills. He was especially partial to Victorian homes and found passion in sharing their history to whomever would listen.

Although Lee enjoyed sitting in his chair with a good old western movie playing, he also held many hobbies. Lee was fond of cooking and found happiness in impressing himself and others with his talent. If it wasn't great fishing weather, you could find him antiquing or refurbishing something his daughters probably told him to throw away. Of all the hobbies held, however, the greatest joy of Lee's life was spending time with and talking about his grandkids. The last three years were spent obsessing over collecting new toys specifically for his "baby boy," Baylor.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; Ilene and Ernest. A daughter; Brittany. Grandchildren; Haryper and Amelya. Siblings; Alton, Erlene, Ervin, and Nelson.

He will be deeply missed by his children; Crystal (Trejon) King, Catherine Cook, Jeannie (Clint) Rainford, Ashley (Jordan Johnston) Janish, and Brian (Jordyn Porter) Janish. Grandchildren; Baylor, Daelyn, Peyton, Alyna, Taryn, Hadley, Graysen, Ava and Evadyna. Sister; Debra (Howard) Vail.

The life lessons and guidance shared throughout his life will be forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Per Lee's wishes, instead of a funeral service there will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, October 11th at 2pm at the Rainford residence: 291 Church St. Wolsey, SD 57384. In the event you are unable to join us in the celebration, cards of condolences will be appreciated.
