Ernest (Ernie) F. Schwab, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Hanover Health Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 6, 1938, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Ernest and Priscilla (Sagh) Schwab.
A proud graduate of Canton McKinley High School, Ernie enlisted in the United States Army following graduation. He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was later stationed in Germany, where he served honorably for four and a half years.
After his military service, Ernie began a long and dedicated career with the Timken Company, working at the Gambrinus Roller Plant. He retired after 35 years of service.
Ernie was a beloved figure in the Stark County bowling community. Second, only to his love for family and fishing, bowling was his lifelong passion. He spent more than 45 years coaching youth bowlers and was honored with induction into the Greater Canton Bowling Hall of Fame for his contributions both on and off the lanes.
Beyond bowling, Ernie cherished time spent fishing—especially his annual trips to Canada—and playing Euchre with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Louis Schwab; his brother-in-law, Gary Roland; and his sons-in-law, Mark Nicholas and Dale Neal.
Ernie is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Katie L. (Gruber) Schwab, whom he married on April 15, 1961; Sister Micky (Haas) Roland; daughters Gayle Neal (Tim Austin), Julie Nicholas (Al Tackett), and Teresa (Mark) Chase; grandchildren Terry Genet, Nick (Sarah) Genet, Mike (Jordan) Nicholas, Matt (Emily) Nicholas, Devlen Neal, and Abby Chase; and great-grandchildren Izabelle Genet, Jacob Haidet, Maryssa Genet, Bryson Genet, Savannah Genet, and Gabriel Nicholas.
He is also survived by his Canadian family: son Patrick (Brenda) Beaudry; grandchildren Samantha (Kevin) Kruithof, Kayla (Manuel) Tousignant, Kimberly (Thomas) Cox; and great-grandchildren Obadiah, Yeorian, Mathieu, Griffin, Malachi, Dawson, and Winston.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home.
