Ernest “Ed” Higginbotham, 78 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 in Union Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute on May 4, 1947 to Virgil Ray Higginbotham and Wanita Gilley Higginbotham.
Ed was a veteran of the United States Army and was a life member of West Terre Haute American Legion Post # 501, where he also served as Past President, life member of West Terre Haute VFW Post # 6574, and life member of the West Terre Haute Young Men’s Club, was an avid woodworker, and loved to travel with his brothers.
Ed is survived by four children; Tonia Lee (Nik), Angie Padgett (Kenny), Michael Higginbotham (Kristy), Danny Higginbotham (Becka) and his grandchildren; Chuck Stranahan III, Savannah Lee, Britny Delp, Ashly Wells, Jabin McCarty, Shelbe Litton, Mika Higginbotham, Carlie Trayes, Jarakah Padgett, Kylie Higginbotham, Kennah Padgett, and Brianna Higginbotham, and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers; Ken Higginbotham (Linda), Albert Higginbotham (Sadie), and Joe Higginbotham (Debbie), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Jim Ray Higginbotham, Jerry Higginbotham, Tom Higginbotham, Terry Higginbotham, Kathy Heffler, and Geneva Boles, as well as his ex-wife and best friend Mary Higginbotham.
Funeral Services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
