Larry Donald West, 69 of West Terre Haute, passed away in his home on March 10th, 2026. He was born on March 10th, 1957, to Donald and Margaret West in Hammond, Indiana.
Larry served his country in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He would go on to work in the painter’s union out of Local Union No. 197. When Larry wasn’t working you could find him outside fishing or mushroom hunting, but Larry was very creative and loved to spend some of his time woodworking and junking. He was one of few men who could walk into a junkyard and make nothing into something. He was a jack of all trades; there wasn’t any task he couldn’t do. On a beautiful day you would often find him on the back porch jamming to his favorite music, oldies, country, and rock. He was a mama’s boy, and would help his mother daily for many years, as she is 99 years old. Larry was a member of the VFW, Young Men’s Club, and American Legion for several years. Larry was a big IU fan, a Hoosier at heart, he supported and loved to watch IU football and basketball. He loved the company of family and good friends. He was a big joker always trying to make his friends and family laugh, but most of all, he was very loyal to those he loved and cared deeply for them.
Larry is survived by his children, Amber Hamblen (Ethan) and Larry West; his mother Margaret West; brothers, Randy West (Patty), Jim West (Patty), and Bob West (Jeanne); a sister Brenda West (Mike); grandchildren, Delaney, Weston, Warren, and Wyatt; as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Donald Lee West; a brother David West; as well as the mother of his children, Donna Tarrh.
In keeping with his wishes cremation was chosen. A celebration of life is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, beginning at 4:00 pm at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, IN 47885, with Pastor Dennis Leek officiating.
