Mickey was raised in Tennessee until he was around 10, then the family moved to Arkansas. After high school and college was a former music teacher for high schools and colleges, then worked as a communication engineer, even serving in Iraq under Gen. Petraeus as a contractor during the Gulf War. Mickey was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife Nina Alexander James, whom he married March 22, 1963; son, John James; grandson, Jesse James; brother, Paul James; and sister, Mary Hope Wallace.
Services will take place at a later date in Leechville, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
