James Carter Watts, 70, of Pine Bluff, was an avid Civil War historian who also loved writing, baseball and his family.
He passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at home.
James was born October 29, 1955, in Little Rock, son of Thomas Hayden Watts and Wanda Ruth "Linda" Duckworth Watts.
He was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School.
James worked for Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation for many years, retiring in 2009 as a maintenance supervisor.
He enjoyed publishing articles and many of his published articles included Confederate and Civil War history. He even helped find the Jefferson Guard Civil War flag and helped retrieve it for the Jefferson County Historical Museum.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Chuck Glover; and two infant grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Garrett Watts; daughter, Cathy Sweet (Jeremy); four sons, Thomas Geaslin, Lawrence Long, Joseph Long and Charles Long; sister, Lisa Glover; 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Minister Larry Kirklin officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m., until service time at Robinson's.
