Ernest Eugene Pennington, of London, Kentucky, was born on March 14, 1939, in Laurel County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Carl Pennington and Lora Belle Hammons Pennington.

On August 28, 1960, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Lorene Nelson Pennington, who survives.

He is also survived by one son, Gary Pennington and wife Carla of London; one sister, Wilma Proffitt of London; one granddaughter, Angela; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zach, and Elizabeth; as well as a host of other family and friends who will deeply mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry Pennington, and two brothers, Howard Pennington and Don Pennington.

Ernie enjoyed early morning squirrel hunting with his trusty twenty gauge, searching for his "furry friends" as he called them. He found nothing more relaxing than an evening waiting for the fish to bite on Lake Cumberland. He took pleasure in motorcycle rides to the Smokey Mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee with his beloved wife. When his brothers had to move North to seek employment, Ernie was blessed to secure a factory job which allowed him to remain near his family, especially his father and mother.

Ernest retired from American Greetings after many years of dedicated service as a machine operator. He was a member of Hart Baptist Church.

Ernest Eugene Pennington departed this life on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 22 days.
