Ernest Edwin Poore, affectionately known as Ernie to his beloved friends and family, was called to his eternal home on June 19th, 2025, in the serene city of
Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on October 3rd, 1957, in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, Ernie entered this world as a beacon of joy and love, a light that would shine brightly for sixty-seven years.
Ernie was a cherished son, born into the bustling Poore household as one of eight siblings. He grew up surrounded by the affectionate chaos that only a large family can provide. His life was a testament to the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, leaving a legacy of love and laughter with his sisters Nina Smith, Kathy Milton, and Tina Poore, and his brothers David and Gary Poore. Though preceded in death by his dedicated parents, Ernest and Marjorie Poore, and his brothers Lee and Claude Poore, the memories they shared are indelible.
Ernie's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and the love he shared with his dear wife Sonia Ordono Poore. Their union was a source of strength and joy, and together they raised a family that reflects their shared values of love and integrity. His children-Sheila & Francisco Estrada, Ernie Sr. & Katie Poore, Christopher Poore & Ximena Ramon, Allison & Ernest Cortinas-were his pride and joy, and his twelve grandchildren, Khai, Caleb, Tatum, Adrianna, Ava, Ernie Jr., Isaiah, Lillian, Maeliani, Addison, Eric, & Nicolas, were the apples of his eye. Each one of them carried a piece of Ernie's generous spirit and loving heart.
Ernie's passion for knowledge led him to the Department of Engineering Technology, where he specialized in Machine Drafting. This knowledge and skill were the foundation of a distinguished career in the United States Navy, where he served as a Chief Petty Officer and Electrician for twenty-one years. His unwavering commitment to his country and his fellow servicemen and women was further displayed in his role as the Chief Electrician aboard the USS Lexington, a duty he performed with honor and distinction.
Ernie's interests were as vibrant and varied as his personality. Cherished in the joy of spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, or Minot, North Dakota. Romantic at heart, he never missed an opportunity for dinner dates with his beautiful wife or a night out at the movies. Ernie's zest for life was evident in his love for fishing, karaoke, dancing, playing pool, and Texas Hold 'Em. His ability to bring laughter and light into any room was unparalleled.
Ernie was the personification of generosity, loving, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was truly a testament to who he was. His gentle and selfless nature was a source of comfort and guidance to all who were blessed to cross his path.
As we reflect on Ernie's life, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." His legacy is one of love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his country. As we bid farewell to Ernest Edwin Poore, we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he has left behind, and we celebrate a life well-lived. We find comfort in the promise of our faith that he has been called home by our Creator and now rests in eternal peace. Until we meet again.
