Ernest Eugene "Ernie" Root

Ernest 'Ernie' Eugene Root, 83 of Midland, died Friday morning, April 11, 2025, at StoryPoint in Midland. He was born November 8, 1941, in Harrison, son of the late Oscar and Mina (Smalley) Root. On December 1, 1962, he married the former Yvonne M. Beamish in Midland. Ernie was employed by Dow Chemical Company at the Corporate Center where he was the head of grounds keeping, mailroom, and the transportation fleet. Upon his retirement after 25 years, he and his wife became snowbirds in Florida where they made many friends. Ernie was family oriented who would do anything for those he loved. He could fix just about anything, especially if it was for his grandchildren. Time spent with his family meant the world to him.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Yvonne Root of Midland; son, Jeff (Laci) Root of Midland; daughter, Lynn (Troy) Marino of Freeland; grandchildren, Jessica Lesh of Freeland, Nicole Root of Shepherd, Noah (Leah) Marino of Sault Ste. Marie, Garrett Marino of Freeland, and Logan Marino of Wesley Chapel, FL; nine great grandchildren, and a brother John (Mary) Root of Argentine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, and a sister Laura Graham.
Funeral services for Ernie will be held 11 a.m. Monday April 14, 2025, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street, with Pastor John Pohanka officiating. Ernie's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association or CorsoCare Hospice.
