Ernest Berton Rutledge

Mr. Ernest Berton Rutledge, age 95 of Resaca, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 11th, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Rutledge was born in Gordon County on December 1st, 1930, a son of the late Carl Seaborn Rutledge and the late Golda Mae Edwards Rutledge. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Rutledge. He graduated from Resaca High School and then attended the Herron Business School in Dalton and went to work for the Georgia Department of Transportation and later enlisted in the Georgia National Guard, where he served for over 20 years. After retiring from the GDOT, he went to work for Northwest Georgia Paving. He was a 60-year Mason and was a member of the Resaca Masonic Lodge. A man of faith, he was a member of Newtown Baptist Church and had previously attended Resaca First Baptist Church. Mr. Rutledge was well known for his remarkable collection of Civil War relics, which are now proudly displayed at the Resaca City Hall. He loved farming and gardening, and in his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sue Rutledge; son, Eric Burton Rutledge (Debra); one granddaughter, Ericka Kile; four great-grandchildren, Weston (Kaleigh) Dawson, Jaxon, and Kyzer; one sister, Edna Joyce.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 14th, 2025, at 3 PM in the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hall officiating. Mrs. Pat Hall will be in charge of music. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 14th, from 1 PM until 3 PM at the funeral home.
