Ernest "Bud" Scharfenberger, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on July 3, 2024.
Bud was born to the late Catherine and Ernest Scharfenberger on November 24, 1930. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. On January 15, 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Heintzman, and together they built a loving family. Affectionately known as "The General" by his family, Bud cherished spending time with his loved ones and took great joy in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a passion for dancing, gardening, fishing and hosting Fish Frys.
Bud was a proud member of the VFW Middleton Post, the 3M Club, and served as a Minister of Care at St. Michael's. He was a Kentucky Colonel and dedicated volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Bud also had the honor of participating in an Honor Flight with his son, a non-profit organization that brings veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.
Bud is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Mary Scharfenberger, his parents, and his sister, Dorothy Reedy (Albert) and brother-in-law Butch Corzine.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Gary Scharfenberger (Angela), Larry Scharfenberger (Melody), and Donna Eisenback (Rick); his siblings Don Scharfenberger D.M.D (Betty) and Cathy Corzine his grandchildren Richard (Gabe), Matthew (Halle), Jennifer (Eric), Christopher (Jennifer), Kevin, Marcus, Michael (Julie), and Mark (Brieann); and his great-grandchildren Abby, Brooke, Austin, Broodie, Lillian, Lucas, Paisley, William, Madelyn, Chase, Isabelle, Jacob, and Shanna. Bud will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 4-8 PM at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home - Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, with burial to follow at St. Edward's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Hosparus Health of Louisville.
