Ernest Whetzel Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ernest Chester Whetzel, known as “Ernie”, age 78 of Old Fields, WV, passed away Saturday morning, August 17, 2024 at his residence with his loving wife of 57 years by his side. Born on January 2, 1946, at Dorcas, Grant County, WV, he was a son of the late Ira Chester Whetzel and Fannie Bell Ketterman Whetzel.
He was previously employed with the United Mine Workers and later a producer for Pilgrims Pride. Most recently he along with his wife, together, operated a lawn care service for 24 years.
He loved hunting, being outdoors, working and most importantly being with his family. He was known for his hard work ethic and for never meeting a stranger. The love that he and Marie shared was so precious. They were never apart and that is how they always wanted it to be. Truly a man of faith who will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving along with his wife, Iris Marie Malcolm Whetzel are two daughters, Brenda Marie Whetzel Bramsen (Gerald) and Connie Sue Whetzel Shoemaker (Kenneth); four grandchildren, Laci Jai Proietti (Chris), Cody Allan Bramsen (Gina), Laiken Marie Shoemaker and Colton Chester Bramsen; and four great-grandchildren, Kenley Marie Evans, Raegan Jai Proietti, Makenna Sue Spencer and Sage Michael Bramsen.
Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Mark Flynn officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 PM & 6 – 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Duffey memorial Church, 100 N Elm Street, Moorefield, WV 26836.
