Ernestine Reid Tomescu passed away at Huntsville Hospital on December 12, 2022, at the age of 72. Ernie, as she was known to her friends and family, was born on September 4, 1950, in Adrian, Michigan to James A. "Jr." and Artie Reid. She moved to Alabama with her family as a child, residing in Marion County until her recent relocation to Huntsville.
Ernie received her nursing license in 1978. She spent her career as a nurse working in Hamilton, caring for her friends and family in a town she loved. She concluded her nursing career as an instructor. The ten years preceding her retirement were spent teaching and sharing her love for a career that had sustained her through many seasons of her life. During her more than 40-year career as a nurse and then nursing instructor, she poured her heart and soul into caring for her patients and instructing her students.
Ernie is survived by her children, Tina Miller Douglas, Tiffin Miller Taylor, Oana Tomescu, and Costin (Meghan) Tomescu; brother, Darrel Reid; grandchildren, Sumer Douglas Tidwell, JonThomas R. Taylor, Cora E. Taylor, Stela Tomescu, Chloe Tomescu and Makenzie Tomescu; great-grandchild, Connor Douglas Tidwell; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and other family. Ernie was preceded in death by her parents, Jr. and Artie Reid; her beloved husband, Dr. Octavian C. Tomescu; her daughter, Lacie; and her sister, Sandra V. Miller.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Alabama. The memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests you consider donating to your local animal shelter in Ernie's name.
