Ervin Ham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ideal Funeral Parlor - Florence on Jan. 6, 2026.
It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Ervin Ham, Jr., 68, of Effingham who transitioned on Saturday, January 3, 2025.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance.
Ervin Ham Jr., 68, of Florence, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on January 3, 2026. He was born on January 29, 1957, to the late Ervin Ham Sr. and Hattie Sanders Ham.
Ervin was educated in the Florence County School System and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1976. Following graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States military for four years before returning home to build a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
He dedicated 33 years of faithful service to Florence School District One, where he remained employed until his retirement. Ervin was known for his quiet nature, bold and straightforward honesty, and strong presence. Though soft-spoken, his words carried meaning, his character was solid, and his love for his family was unwavering. He found peace in simple things and had a special love for horses and dogs.
From childhood into adulthood, Ervin was a devoted member of St. Beulah Baptist Church and later attended Savannah Grove Baptist Church.
Ervin was united in holy matrimony to his devoted wife, Jacqueline Ham, for 47 beautiful years. From this union, three children were born: Ervin Maurice Ham (Tunisia) of Effingham, SC; Jacquetta Ham of Effingham, SC; and Herschel Jarmal Ham (Megan) of Florence, SC.
Those closest to Ervin will forever remember his quiet humor and familiar sayings-often gently asking his wife, whom he lovingly called "Jackie," "Jackie now, why you did that?"-and reminding others, "You be your butt careful." These words perfectly captured his blend of honesty, love, and concern for those around him.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Ervin leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Hattie Sanders Ham; eight grandchildren: LyTasia Ham, Malaysia Godbolt, Maurice Ham Jr., Wynter Gainey, London Ham, Herschel Ham Jr., Wyatt Ham, and Mehki Ham; three brothers, Allen Ham, James "Nuki" Ham, and Michael Ham, all of Florence, SC; and one sister, Priscillia Ham.
He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Thomsena (Billy) Brown of Effingham, SC; Diane Moses of Florence, SC; and Camelia (David) McCormick of Florence, SC; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Cooper of Suitland, Maryland, and Otis Nettles of Florence, SC.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Ham Sr.; his sister, Brenda W. Muldrow; and his brother, Issac "Boy" Williams.
Ervin also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure his life, his love, and the legacy he leaves behind.
