Obituary of Major Noel Fitzgerald "Fitzy" Mason

Noel Fitzgerald Mason, affectionately known to all as "Fitzy," entered into eternal rest on September 25, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on December 19, 1952, in Black River, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to the late Majors Raphael and Florence Mason, his life was one marked by devotion, service, and an unwavering love for God and people.

From early on, it was evident that Noel carried a calling greater than himself. Answering that call, he was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer on June 22, 1980, a proud member of the Proclaimers of Salvation session. A year later, on January 3, 1981, he wed the love of his life, Rose Marie. For 44 years they walked side by side in both marriage and ministry, embodying a partnership rooted in faith, grace, and steadfast devotion.

Together, Majors Noel and Rose Marie Mason faithfully served the Salvation Army for 38 years, ministering across the Caribbean and in the Central Territory of the United States. Their pastoral journey touched countless lives, guiding souls to Christ, nurturing communities, and embodying the gospel in action. With his trademark humor, boundless energy, and radiant spirit, Noel had a way of making every person feel seen, valued, and loved. To know him was to be lifted by his laughter, encouraged by his words, and embraced by his heart.

On January 1, 2019, he and his beloved wife retired from active service at the rank of Major, following their final appointment as Corps Officers at the Minneapolis Parkview Corps Community Center. They then made their home in Loganville, Georgia, where Major Mason continued to be a source of wisdom, joy, and encouragement until his passing.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Major Rose Marie Mason; his children, Arike Mason and Akin Mason; his siblings Major Paul Mason, Reverend L. Christopher Mason, and Mrs. Carol White; along with countless nieces, nephews, and spiritual children who will carry forward his legacy of faith and love. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lt. Colonel Raphael Mason, and his sister Patricia Mason.

Noel's life was a living sermon, an outpouring of love, humor, and unshakable faith. His influence will continue to ripple across generations, through both his family and the many whose lives were forever changed by his ministry.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Gwinnett County Corps in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Wages and Sons Funeral Home, C/O Major Rose Marie Mason, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046.

Though we mourn his absence, we rejoice that he is now in the presence of the One he served so faithfully, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
