Our beloved Essence Franreca Jackson-Bivens entered eternal rest on July 31, 2025, at the age of forty-three. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia, Essence earned her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She devoted twenty-plus years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, taking care of others. Essence worked at Harbor's Edge Retirement Community until her health declined. Her spirit was filled with kindness, always willing to help lift others up.
Essence was a dedicated and loving wife. She married Ronnie on May 12, 2007, and together they built a life filled with laughter, compassion, and unwavering love.
She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, niece, cherished friend, and a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Bivens, two sons, Dequan Knox and Jabari Bivens, and a daughter, Jasmine Bivens, who were the center of her world and the joy of her heart. Survived by two brothers, Antwain Jackson (Renorda Griffin) and Dana Harrison, a sister Danielle Harrison, a host of aunts, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. She is predeceased in death by her beloved parents, Donnel and Letha Harrison, grandmother Sweetie Ardell Jackson, grandfather George Jackson Sr, and aunt Odilia Wilson.
Essence's greatest joys were playing bingo, watching basketball and football, cookouts, and gathering with family and friends in "Queen City."
We are comforted in knowing that Essence is now resting in the presence of the Lord, whom she loved so dearly. Though our hearts ache with her sudden absence, we find peace in knowing she has found eternal rest and joy in His embrace. May her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion continue to inspire us all.
