Jonesboro- Essie Emily Harris, 79, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born July 25, 1928 in Jonesboro to the late H. R. and Essie Cook. Mrs. Harris was a bookkeeper with Dena Construction Company and a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and the 875th Port Battalion and a canasta club called Couples Club. She loved to cook and bake. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Scott Edward Harris of the home; a son and his wife, Charles F. and Pat Harris of Brookland; three grandchildren, Carson Harris, Lauren Vickers and Amanda Boling and husband R.J. all of Brookland; four sisters, Ellen Brewer and Betty Jean Gwyn both of Jonesboro; Dena Campbell and husband Joe Mack of Bono and June LaFleur and husband Charles of Sugarland, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held, Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 10.00 a.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are her nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 5.00 p.m. until 7.00 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The family requests lasting memorials be given to the Brookland United Methodist Church.
