Esther S. Culbert, age 95, passed away on November 3, 2025. She was born in Tremont, PA to Raymond and Florence (Klock) Straub and was a long-time resident of Sewell, Mantua Township. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael.
Esther is survived by her loved children and their families. They are Peggy Dougherty of Sewell, NJ, James (Brenda) of Mount Wolf, PA, and Edward (Suzanne) of Southington, CT. Her grandchildren are Karey Beth, Brian, Michael, Shane, Daniel, and Chelsea, as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen Klinger and Alene Fegley, and six brothers, Mark, Lawrence, David, Lester, Dean, and Delbert.
Esther was always interested in health and fitness. She taught water aerobics at the YMCA in Woodbury, was involved with the NJ Senior Games, and participated in the National Senior Games in Tucson, AZ. She also managed a health food store in the Deptford Mall.
Backpacking and bicycling were passions of Esther and her husband which culminated in their hiking the Appalachian Trail, Georgia to Maine, and bicycling from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. Walking tours took them to many parts of the world.
Since 1966, Esther was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Woodbury Heights where she was a Sunday School teacher, an acolyte coordinator, an elder, choir member for 26 years, and was the secretary of the Prime Timers.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 9:30am - 11:00am, at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051. Funeral Service to be held at 11:00am, with burial following at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, 240 N. Tuckahoe Rd., Williamstown, NJ.
If desired, memorial offerings can be made in her name to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 335 Elm Ave., Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097.
