Esther Flodin Obituary
1934 - 2025
Esther Marie (Vandal) Flodin, 90, passed away after a decades long battle with Alzheimer's disease on Feb. 5, 2025. She was born Dec. 16, 1934 on the family farm in Rolla, ND.
In addition to her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her devoted husband Marvin "Swede" Flodin, three brothers and many other relatives and friends. They are all welcoming her into heaven with open arms.
She is survived by her son Tim (Sandy) Flodin and daughter Kim (Doug) Chambers; Andrea Flodin; grandchildren Tim (Melanie) Flodin, Bryan (Sarah) Chambers, Denise (Justin) Lecher, Scott Flodin, Kelly (Alex) Kocken, Keith (Abby) Flodin; and great grandchildren Braeden, Gwyndolyn, Peyton, Gavin, Kellyn, Brynn, Linden, Oakley, Gibson, Fulton and Charlotte, and countless loving family members.
On Feb. 11, 1956, Esther married the love of her life, Swede, spending most of their lives raising their family in Bloomington, MN. In their more than 60 years together, they had many wonderful life experiences and created lifelong memories. Among them included owning and hosting family at their cabin on Lake Minnewaska in Starbuck, MN, snowbirding to escape many Minnesota winters in Cape Coral, FL and exploring the world leading group travel tours.
Esther will be remembered for her giving heart, love for her family and eternal optimism. For over 25 years she selflessly worked as a special education paraprofessional and loved those children as her own. And Esther never let a loved one's birthday pass without singing to them, or leave the house without an "I love you" sign language wave.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at The Legacy of Farmington and Minnesota Hospice for their care of Esther in her final years of life. It has warmed our hearts.
A funeral service will be held in Esther's honor on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, MN 55044. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Even in death, Esther will be helping others by donating her brain and other organs to the National Disease Research Interchange (NDRI) to further study and understand Alzheimer's disease - a condition that impacts so many families.
