Esther Patricia Moonsammy passed away comfortably and peacefully at her home in
Tucker, GA on Sunday February 8th 2026, at the age of 80, after becoming ill on Jan 4th.
Esther was born on March 7th 1945, in Canjie Berbice, Guyana to Noel Angus and Badasilla Hunt.
She lived in Berbice where she attended an all-girls Catholic school before moving to Georgetown where she lived most of her adult life, starting her family and managing her businesses until migrating to Tucker Georgia, USA in 1996 where she was a teacher at an early childcare center.
Esther was the matriarch of her family. She was loved and revered by all who knew her. She was empowering and tenacious in all aspects of her life.
The door to her home was never closed to family and friends. Esther was an excellent cook and loved to bake, a skill she harnessed from her father Noel, and this was evident in the meals she served in the family restaurants. She enjoyed dancing and was a skilled ballroom dancer in her younger years. When she danced, everyone was in awe. Her greatest joy was when she was surrounded by her husband Francis, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband Francis Moonsammy. Her children John D'Avilar and Richard Moonsammy. Her grandchildren Adrian Hoosain and Melissa Kissoon. Son-in-law Sunil Hoosain. Her brother Walter Hunt & three sisters: Yvonne Hunt, Anita Hunt and Claire Hunt and brothers-in-law Edwin and Michael Moonsammy and her former husband, Victor D'Avilar.
She is survived by her children, Petal D'Avilar, Victor (Shawn) D'Avilar, Sharon (Simeon) Kissoon, Marcelle Hoosain, Edwin (Allison) Moonsammy, Serena Young and Simone (Bryan) Smith.
Esther is also survived by her grandchildren: Carolina D'Avilar, Victor D'Avilar, Alistair D'Avilar, Alexander D'Avilar, Andrew D'Avilar, Anthony D'Avilar, Ashley Kissoon, Melinda Kissoon, Meyonka Kissoon, Michael Kissoon, Andre Hoosain, Aviana Hoosain, Aleena Moonsammy, Annessa Moonsammy, Antonio Moonsammy, Asenna Moonsammy, Tegwen Moonsammy, Alwina Moonsammy, Ashwina Moonsammy, Adam Young, Isabella Young and Athena Smith, her granddaughters-in law, grandsons-in-law and 14 great grandchildren
Her surviving siblings: Pauline Swammy, Monica (Ronald) Fisher, Mario King, Ronald Hunt, Richard Hunt, Dennis Hunt and Gerald (Eileen) Hunt. Her in-laws: Evelyn (Basil) Narine, Agnes Moonsammy, Mary (Deo) Balram, Patrick Moonsammy, Gerald (Diane) Moonsammy, Audrey Moonsammy and Jane Moonsammy. Numerous nieces and nephews: Vonetta Gariba, Theodore Singh, Dwayne Moonsammy, Kirk Moonsammy, Gail Simon and Andy Balram, to name a few.
Other family: The Gariba Family, The Mootoo Family, The Gritten Family and The Hinds Family. Her beloved friends: Betty Gragg, Leela and Carol and countless others across the world.
Wake will be held at her residence in the evening of Wednesday February 10th, 2026
Funeral Service will be held at 11AM February 12th 2026, at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, 351 North Clarendon Avenue,
Scottdale, GA 30079.
Visitation will begin at 10AM.
