Esther Powell

Esther Eileen Powell, born on June 25, 1932, in Moundsville, West Virginia, passed peacefully on February 8, 2026, at the age of 93, at Moundsville Healthcare Center.

Esther was a woman of warmth and kindness who dedicated herself to her work and family with unwavering devotion. As a cashier for Kroger and Ace Hardware, she was known for her friendly demeanor and diligent service, always striving to make every customer's experience enjoyable.

Described as a "free spirit" by her loved ones, Esther embraced life with joy and simplicity. She had an innate ability to bring laughter and smiles to those around her. Cherishing time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she filled their lives with happiness and love.

Esther was Christian by faith. Her beliefs were evident in the kindness she bestowed upon everyone she met.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara (Darrah) Hewitt; her infant daughter, Diana; her brother, Sonny Hewitt; and her dear granddaughters, Julie and Lea Alvarez, along with her grandson, Billy Powell III.

She is survived by her children, Lois Alvarez, Bonnie Powell, Bill (Sheila) Powell, Jr., and Lyle Powell; her sister, Naomi Simms; her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Jillian, Delaney, and Cullen Powell; and great-grandchildren, Julia McElwee and Derrick Derrow. Esther also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her fondly.
