She served as a Sunday School teacher at Wayside Baptist Church, where Richard was pastor, and later became a founding leader of Winsome Women. She was an active member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church including their small groups. She was also a bible study leader, mentor and encourager to many throughout her life.
Ethel earned a master's degree in mathematics and taught both mathematics and music at Grace College. She founded the Grace College Orchestra and Handbell Choir, leading several tours through South America. She was an accomplished violist and played in multiple local orchestras. Earlier in her career, she taught in elementary schools and inspired countless young students.
