Ethel Carr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zirbel Funeral Home on Dec. 24, 2024.
Ethel Glazier Carr was born in Waterville, Maine on April 17, 1929 to Harold and Carrie Glazier. She was number 11 of 12 children born to the Glaziers. Ethel only finished eighth grade due to horrible earaches. She met and married Dexter Carr in 1949 and they had their first child in November of 1950. Her children are Gail (Herb) Mason, Wanda (William) Cady, Laury (Jenni) Carr and Brian (Kathleen) Carr.
Following their divorce in 1963 Ethel's dream was to have all her children educated in the Seventh-Day Advent Church Education System. She found work at Union Springs Academy, a boarding school in upstate New York. Ethel left the state of Maine, her family and friends to take her children to the academy for their Christian education. She worked in the school kitchen preparing meals for the boarding students. The students also worked in the kitchen to help pay their school bills.
Ethel worked in that kitchen for 13 years, teaching students how to cook, encouraging them in their studies, praying for them in their difficult times and loving them like a mother would.
1981 found her moving to Canaan, CT to work in the kitchen at Geer Memorial Nursing Home. She remained there until her retirement in 1995. She moved to Groton, NY in 1999 to be near her children.
Ethel has 8 living grandchildren and 8 living great-grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be at Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams Street, Groton, NY on Tuesday December 31, 2024. Calling hours are 1:00pm until 3:00pm with a short service to follow from 3:00pm until 4:00pm.
