Ethel A. (Smith) Rebert, age 80, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation on November 9, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late Clyde H. Rebert, Jr. who passed away on May 27, 2011; together they shared 47 years of marriage.
Ethel was born in Hanover, PA on February 4, 1945 and was one of twelve children of the late Lewis and Alma (Sanders) Smith. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family, her beloved pets and all who entered. Ethel's home was open to all and she would never hesitate to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. She was a master of sewing and crocheting. Family was one of Ethel's most important achievements in life and all those who had an opportunity to know her were blessed with her kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity. "Gone from our sight but never from our hearts."
Ethel is survived by her daughter Kimberly A. Bassler and husband Steven; and two grandchildren Sophie and Jackson. She is also survived by her sisters Violet Bair, Margaret Hummer, Teresa Barker; and her brothers Charles Smith and Alan Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her sisters Pauline Brunner, Joan Hagerman, and Nancy Miller; and her brothers Robert Smith, Ricky Smith and Ronald Smith.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Ethel's life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00AM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 with Rev. Richard Lyons officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service with her husband at Annunciation B.V.M. Cemetery in McSherrystown.
