Etta Rebecca Newlin (née Thomas)
July 6, 1934 – July 3, 2025
Pilesgrove, New Jersey
Etta Rebecca (Thomas) Newlin, a woman of unwavering faith, grace, and kindness, went home to be with her Savior on July 3, 2025, just three days shy of her 91st birthday.
Born on July 6, 1934, the sixth of eight children to Arthur A. Thomas and Myrtle (Woodland) Thomas, Etta lived a life marked by humility, service, and a deep love for Jesus. She faithfully served alongside her husband, Rev. Raymond Newlin Sr., in ministry both locally and internationally. Together, they cared for local congregations and they traveled the globe sharing the Gospel-Etta always the graceful, adaptable support, whether hosting guests or navigating rustic mission fields with elegance and resilience.
As a devoted pastor's wife, mother of five, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother, Etta poured her heart into creating a home filled with love, prayer, and hospitality. Her doors were always open-for missionaries, church members, and anyone in need of encouragement or a warm meal. She modeled selflessness, gentleness, and a Christ-like spirit in everything she did.
Etta was an accomplished organist, a passionate gardener, and a woman whose quiet strength shaped the hearts and lives of generations. With her husband Raymond, she faithfully served the Wesleyan Denomination for over 60 years, including 25 years as pastor's wife and the planting of two Wesleyan Churches. Her greatest desire was that everyone she knew would come to know Jesus Christ and would one day join her in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond J. Newlin Sr., her sons Nathaniel (Patricia) Newlin, and Eugene (Tina) Newlin, and her grandson Shawn (Laura) Newlin. She is survived by her children Ruth Needy, Raymond Jr. (Barbara), and Mae (Wayne) Wagner, Jr., Grandchildren: Isaac, Joshua Thomas (Caroline), Alisha (Richard), Elizabeth (Matthew), Melissa (Johnathan), Raymond III (Dorcas), Matthew (Patricia), Emily, Benjamin (Catherine), Nathaniel, Shala, Barbara Grace, Michelle (Charles), Shannon, Thomas, Ciera (Jacob), and Bryce. Great Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jessica, Anna, Henry, Andrew, Luke, Hannah, Neveah, Johnathan, Elliana, Chloe, Braelyn, Treyton, Skyler, Opal, Cameron, (Nitza), Kyle, Jonathan, and Abigail. Her, family was everything-especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
Etta's life was a testimony of grace in action-a reflection of the Savior she loved so deeply. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
A memorial service to celebrate and honor our remarkable mother, grandma, and great grandma will be held on September 6, 2025 at 11 am at CrossPoint Wesleyan Church, 333 Georgetown Rd, Carneys Point NJ 08069.
