It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that the family of Eugene announces his passing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. A true original, Eugene will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his unwavering dedication to his family, and his love for the land he worked.

Born in Maize, Eugene was a farmer through and through. More than just a profession, farming was his passion. He found peace in the cycle of planting and harvesting and took immense pride in his crops. He was known for his innovative spirit and willingness to experiment, always seeking a better way to do things.

Beyond the farm, Eugene was known as a mischievous and fun-loving character who was always the life of the party. He had a knack for telling tall tales, and his stories, often embellished for comedic effect, made everyone around him feel like family. He loved a good conversation and had a way of turning strangers into friends within minutes. Eugene was the center of the fun.

A proud and active member of the Shriners, Eugene was dedicated to serving his community and helping those in need. He was deeply committed to the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children, and his participation in parades and other events brought him great joy. He truly believed in the organization's work and spent countless hours giving back.

Above all else, Eugene cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and the best grandpa and great grandpa. He loved celebrating special moments with his family, from graduations to weddings, and he and Melinda's home was always filled with laughter and love. His greatest legacy is the love he shared and the values he instilled in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Melinda; his children, Maria (Mark) Kozan of Wichita, Marla (Brad) Sexson of New Braunfels, TX and Mahlon Alexander of Wichita; grandchildren, Thad Alexander, Brent Maltsbarger, Trevor Alexander, Forrest Kozan, Mallory Kozan, Bryce Sexson, Kaden Alexander, Landon Alexander, Jayse Alexander, Ashley Kozan, Jordan Green, Jordyn Sexson; great grandson, Knox Kozan; brothers, Leroy Alexander of Goddard, Ted Alexander of Little Rock, AR; sisters, Zelma Elsen of Wichita, and Rena Woodard of Maize.

Eugene is preceded by his parents, Earl and Mildred Alexander; and brother, Leland Alexander of Maize.

A visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, October 20, 2025, Funeral Service at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, both at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary, with interment to follow at Maize Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with: Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy, 130 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS 67202.
