Eugene Anderson Obituary

Visit the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel - McCook website to view the full obituary.

Royal Eugene Anderson was born to Royal Edward and Bertha Mae (Hines) Anderson on August 14, 1936 in Ong, Nebraska.

“Eugene” went to school at Geneva, Nebraska and then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for two years majoring in Agriculture.

Eugene married Marilyn Kimsey on September 3, 1961 in Geneva at the Methodist Church. They were blessed with two daughters and made their home in Geneva before moving to McCook in 1975.

Eugene served his country in the Army National Guard out of Hastings. He joined in 1958 and proudly served for six years. He was known as a “sharp shooter.” He developed many close friendships during his service times.

Eugene was very active in his community. He was a Rotarian in both Geneva and McCook chapters during his active business career. He was awarded a Pail Harris Fellow. Together with his wife Marilyn, Eugene volunteered with 4-H clubs and took many students on trips with The Special Olympics.

Eugene was a store manager for Safeway, Ideal trucker and Quick Freight. He worked for Orscheln’s for 30 plus years until his health no longer permitted. He enjoyed his work and loved helping his customers.

In his free time, Eugene was a tractor collector and restored many John Deere and Farmall tractors to their original glory. He enjoyed his tractor club meetings, tractor drives, shows and parades.

In 2014 Eugene and Marilyn were awarded as the Heritage Days Honor Family.

God and family were the most important areas of Eugene’s life. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. He was part of many church committees, was instrumental in restoring the beautiful pipe organ, always active and supportive of the youth in the church, men’s bible groups and volunteered whenever needed.

After moving south of McCook, Eugene put his organizational and people skills together in order to persuade the city to provide water access to the homes around that area.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and many special friends and relatives. Marilyn and Eugene operated a catering business for 30 years. This provided many opportunities for family bonding as grandchildren were all involved at an early age. Catering Plus served countless auctions, weddings, anniversaries, graduations and probably the family favorite was the car races at Lexington.

Eugene Anderson, a longtime resident of McCook, was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at his home just south of McCook. He was 89 years of age.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Lavae and Bruce McCloud; his mother and father-in-law, Opal and Clement Kimsey; sister-in-law, Janice Kimsey; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Nancy Kimsey.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; daughters, Brenda (Mark) Hayes of Bartley and Bonnie (Mike) Brown of McCook; honorary son, Tony Peters and family; grandchildren, Sydney (Randy) Bauman of McCook, Lyndsay McLaren (Heather Bisch) of California, Tyler (Lou) Hayes of Bartley, Darcie (Josh) Keenportz of Bartley; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Emmett, Payton, Trent, and Cordell; sisters, Lois (Roger) Witt, Nancy (Kent) Kelch, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends

Cremation was chosen and services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday morning, November 1, 2025 at Memorial Methodist Church in McCook with Pastor Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial with Military Honors in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.

Memorials are suggested to the family of Gene Anderson for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook has been entrusted with arrangements.
