Barbourville, Ky. – Eugene Bargo, 80, passed away September 1, 2025. Eugene was the son of Gilbert Bargo and Axie Mills Bargo born to them on April 23, 1945, in Blanche, Kentucky. When Eugene was 14 years old, he moved to Knox County.
Eugene was a hard worker who drew strength from his family and friends. He was of the Baptist Faith. Always helpful, Eugene often assisted friends delivering coal to homes around his community. Eugene was an avid sports fan. He loved watching baseball, football, and basketball, especially the Kentucky Wildcats men's and women's teams. Other interest included keeping stats for an area soft ball team, reading, and collecting coins. Eugene will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left behind to mourn Eugene's passing are his sisters Dorothy Bargo Gabbard (Jerry) of Corbin, Kentucky and Barbara Bargo Beheler (Kenneth) of Taylor, Michigan; brother-in-law Escoe Smith; nephews Sean Smith (Patricia) of Corbin, Kentucky, Donnie Bargo of
Barbourville, Kentucky, and Larry Moore of Taylor, Michigan; nieces Erika Gibson (Kevin), Brittany Hale (Jason), Tiffany Gabbard, and Katelyn Dean (Tristin), all of Corbin, Kentucky, Rhonda Cone (Dennis) of Taylor, Michigan, and Joanne Pauley (Perry) of Arizona. Several great nieces and nephews, Sierra Smith of Corbin, Kentucky, Savannah, Isabella, and Ethan Cone, of Taylor, Michigan, Penelope, Lainey, and Jason Hale of Corbin, Kentucky, Autumn and Sophia Dean of Corbin, Kentucky, and Emma Gibson of Corbin, Kentucky, also survive Eugene.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert, and Axie Bargo; brothers, Leon Bargo, and Donald Ray Bargo; and sisters Retha Mae Bargo, Gelois Bargo Fetters, Lula Bargo Smith, Irene Bargo, Alene Bargo and Eselene Bargo.
The Bargo family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM. Reverend Ricky Broughton will officiate. Musical tributes to be performed by Reverend Ricky Broughton and Ann Broughton. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Barbourville Cemetery. Cherished family members and friends will serve as Casket Bearers
